Cloud

2017 – 2018
mixed media on paper, 30 x 20 cm

In her photos Trudi Bloom tries to capture a certain mood that she comes across often rather unexpectedly. In her depiction of empty spaces many times you can find traces that people must have left there in the past thus subtly hinting at the universal and ubiquitous presence of humankind while at the same time allowing the observer to share a very personal point of view of the desertedness of the scene. In her series „cloud“ she paints over photos and the cloud takes up space, partly covering what you see and partly taking up space itself. It alters the perspective: watching things through a cloud changes things. This is what interests me, she says, a certain depth and ambiguity is added to the barren emptiness.
